General and Lady Washington fraktur on laid paper
19H x 16W. Offering a one-of-a-kind original fraktur that I created in 2004. The piece features stylized portraits of General George Washington and Lady Washington, rendered in a whimsical, patriotic folk-art style. The figures are labeled with misspelled titles—“exselenc georg general Waschingdon” and “Lady Waschingdon”—adding charm and character in the spirit of early American decorative arts.
This fraktur has hung in my home since its completion and is now being offered for sale. It is framed in antique 19th‑century molding with original aged white paint, showing authentic wear and chipped edges.
The artwork is done in ink on laid paper and deliberately aged with creases and heavy surface wear to mimic 18th- and early 19th‑century fraktur pieces. While not an antique, it stands as a faithful homage to Pennsylvania German folk traditions and patriotic Americana.
